Interaction and orientation for youth leaders on rescue and evacuation during earthquake(Photo feature)

Kathmandu June 23rd 2015- The Embassy of the United States of America, in partnership with disABILITY Media Foundation and Nepal Healthcare Equipment Development Foundation  organized an interaction and training session on July 23rd on the rescue and evacuation of disabled people during earthquake at Hotel Hardik, Bagbazar.

The program comprised of DPO’s(Disabled Person Organizatons) leaders and youth leaders and trainers from Handicap International Nepal and Redcross. In this program DPO leaders shared their experiences about the challenges faced by them during the earthquake and otherwise and what changes could be made at the policy and implementation level to make things easier for them. Representatives of Handicap International and Red cross presented on how to safely transfer victims with disabilities from one place to another during disaster  and how to give proper first aid during emergencies respectively.  Marissa Polnerow , Cultural Officer at the American Embassy and Mr. Ananta Ram Baidya, P.E too shared her insight on the American Disability Act which celebrates the silver jubilee of its implementation this year and how a similar act could be brought about in Nepal as well.

The added highlight to this program was that Hotel Hardik is the first hotel to have a disabled accessible ramp and toilet.

It turned out to be quite an active and gainful session for all concerned.
