Honouring unsung heroes

Kathmandu March 27 :The first ever award to recognise Nepali social entrepreneurs who create value for people, planet and profit, Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA) draws attention to the unsung heroes in our society. Ten candidates, two of whom are featured here, have been shortlisted for the award this year. The award ceremony will be held on March 28, in which five winners will be honoured. Since its inception, the number of applicants has been increasing every year, with altogether 119 entries for this year. SNASEA is sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd and organised by ChangeFusion Nepal.
TEJ KUMARI TIWARI

Venture: Nepal Society of Disabled Multi-purpose Cooperative

Location: Maidi – 5, Dhading
The cooperative, conceptualised and established by Tej Kumari Tiwari and her team, provides financial and technical support to persons with disabilities. Being differently-abled herself, Tiwari started this cooperative with the sole motive to uplift and promote income generating opportunities for those like her. The cooperative has been in operation since the last 15 years and also works for advocacy and awareness of their rights, to bring changes at the policy level as well. To help new businesses, it also provides small loans to members who may want to start their own venture.
